15th Dec 2024 - Play Sportz hosts 1st Volleyball Tournament

IMG-20241215-WA0057.jpg

Along with BHF Volunteers, Play Sportz hosted a 9 team, 5hours, Volleyball Tournament. What an amazing tournament, with so much competitive play and talent from all the teams. Many drove from various regions and organisations to showcase their team skills, and boy did some of them jump  in the air. It was a tense evening as each team remained resilient in battling to the end. Our very own Play Sportz team with players Kayen, Milan, Veer, Charlie, Kian, Shiv and Andy put on an incredible display, literally shocking some of our opponents in quick leads and wins. And with our young boys only having 3 weeks of training they certainly held their ground. Congratulations to 3rd place Ashton, Runners Up Krishna Temple and Winners SMS Deane.

15th Dec 2024 - Congratulations Coach Denesh

Today we celebrate the long service of Denesh Parbat. He and his son Ariyan joined the club just after it was launched several years ago. Shortly after, Denesh began helping out coaching the kids not just at Play Sportz but also our league club Westhoughton Rangers. Soon after Denesh went and sought his Level 1 qualifications and became our lead football coach at Play Sportz. Today heading up the Youth players with his coaching colleagues. Denesh has displayed exemplary service in developing the players, organising tournaments, refereeing in large events, and more. He continues to turn up each week with so much enthusiasm and planned sessions.

The Play Sportz family thanks you for your many years of service.

5th Dec 2024 - Thank you Lindsay & Happy Retirement

For the past 7 years we have been very lucky to have the sponsorship backing of an amazing local business - Vernacare (a medical supplies company) based in Bolton. With their support we have managed to grow as a club, and each year their donations have helped us take things to another level.

A lot of this would have not been possible, had it not been for the excellent work from Lindsay Dobson. She has shared our story each year to her colleagues at Vernacare in the great work we do in the community.

Lindsay has been with the company for over 22years and will now be taking a well earned retirement. The Play Sportz family wishes to thank her and wish her the best. Please do come and check us out Lindsay on a Sunday Morning  in Westhoughton.

30th September

A big Thank you to our guest infants team SST Deane who played a friendly match against our Play Sportz Infants yesterday. It was a very fluid game, with plenty of action and talent. This was a chance for both organisations to meet and showcase their recent weeks of training in front of a packed out parental audience. The session ended with a final extra match where all the players were mixed up and two teams created. So not only did they compete on the day, but they also collaborated. Real Community Spirit.

17th April 2024 Nice Announcement – Read on

We are now the biggest Netball Organisation for Children in the North West. What an achievement in a short space of time.

I would therefore really like to talk about the success of our committee / volunteers who don’t just run netball, but all our other sporting activities. Our success boils down to a large committee / volunteers, with such diversity, age groups from 19yrs, to in their 20’s 30’s 40’s 50’s and upwards. We don’t just develop our players but we develop our committee members / volunteers / coaches. Qualifications is key for us, as is safeguarding and First Aid. As our members grow, so do our team, and not just in numbers but also skill sets.

Our coaches don’t just coach. They are mentors, role models, inspirational to the children they work with, and truly develop the next generation of leaders. I have so much joy watching them perform on a Sunday Morning in their teams, in how they interact with not just the players, but also the parents who attend with them. Listening to our members feedback is key. Massive thank you to Rina Lakhman, Chandrika Halai, Dimple Patel, Sammy Patel, Meeta Parbat, Adrian Patel, Krish Patel, Suey Parbat, Jamie Lees, Kish Murji, Ritesh Chauhan, Denesh Parbat, Aaron Patel.

I also wish to praise all those parents who often also help out.

Can’t wait for our team building event in May 😊

Congratulations to our Coach of the Year 2023 - Rina Lakhman (Netball)

Rina coach of year 23.jpg
Rina Awards.jpg

This award was presented by Abbey Barry, Netball Development Officer from Netball England.

In 2022, Rina decided to become a volunteer coach with Play Sportz, driven by her lived experience and the lack of representation of ethnically diverse girls in the local community taking part in sports regularly. Recognising this gap, she decided to make a difference by launching a netball program. With her personal experience playing netball, Rina dedicated herself to creating a safe, welcoming space for girls and women from diverse backgrounds to get involved in the sport.

**The Early Challenges and Rina’s Resilience**

Starting any new initiative comes with challenges, and Rina’s journey was no different. The early days of her netball sessions had limited numbers and saw only six players attending every Sunday, but this did not deter her. Rina remained committed to marketing the program, networking, and ensuring that her team of volunteers stayed motivated despite the low numbers. She poured her energy into developing the players, which she had, making every session enjoyable and focusing on their development in various ways.

Not only did she put in the work with the players, Rina focused on improving herself and her team of 6 volunteers. Sammy Patel, Chandrika Halai, Dimple Patel, Meeta Parbat, Tanya Singh & Manju Halai. Without them she could not have delivered what she has done to date. They have been her armour and support her every week working hard. She and two other coaches enrolled a Level 1 coaching programme, becoming an England Netball Association member.

**A Growing Community Success**

Since set up Rina’s team has now dramatically grown. From the small group of six players who were founding members, she now manages over 40 Netballers, ranging from young girls aged 5 to 15, to adult women. What started as a modest sized club has grown into a thriving community activity, with new players joining every month, all through word of mouth. The programme’s success can is solely due to the excellent work Rina and her team have been doing, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for everyone involved.
